| K-4 Reading Bundle
The Read, Write & Type Learning System and Wordy Qwerty are both rich, multi-sensory, multi-model software programs on their own. But together, they also make an engaging and effective reading enrichment package for grades K-4. Children who have learned to touch-type with the Read, Write & Type Learning System, will have the advantage of and the opportunity to practice their keyboarding skills while learning more advanced spelling and word-building skills with Wordy Qwerty.
So we've packaged both programs together and are selling them as the K-4 Reading Bundle. Buying the discounted bundle is a great way to save money and give youngsters a powerful boost in developing their language arts skills.

The Read, Write & Type Learning System Learning System adventure takes place in a fantasy world inside the computer. A lively gang of storytellers (Ann the Ant, Bud, the Banjo Cass the Cat, etc.) live in two houses that look like the two halves of a keyboard. A mischievous computer villain called Vexor tries to steal the letters and prevent the storytellers from writing down their stories. Two Helping Hands, Lefty and Rightway, help children foil Vexor through 40 exciting levels, building hundreds of animated sentences and stories as they go. Children are rewarded with certificates of advancement after every four letters.
The Twelve Steps to Reading, Writing and Typing
1. Children begin by connecting each sound with a friendly keyboard storyteller. The keyboard storytellers present their phonemes, their place on the keyboard, and their favorite stories. Children learn how new sounds come alive when 2 letters team up, like "aw" or "sh".
2. Children then look at a picture, identify the sounds in each word, and type the letter or pair of letters that make up each sound. Forty beginning, middle, and ending speech sounds are linked to their place on the keyboard.
3. Children begin to build words by typing sounds. No other program combines the sounds of phonics with correct finger placement, so children easily learn to type the sounds they hear.
4. Children start to read and write simple stories. They practice writing at the Story Tree in 40 delightfully animated scenes -- just by listening, looking and typing.
5. Children move on to creating their own stories, with their newfound typing and phonics skills and the Read, Write & Type!™ simple word processor and talking keyboard.
6. For further practice, children can send messages using the simulated email feature. The messages they "receive" are actually stories written by real children from different countries around the world.
7. Children build on their typing skills by playing the Power Fountain with Vexor, or they visit the Bonus Blimp for practice in areas where they need the most help.
8. In the Sound Game, children practice sound recognition by saying the name of the picture displayed and then typing the correct letter or pair of letters that represent the beginning, middle, or ending speech sound.
9. The Reading Game provides extra help in reading comprehension by matching a picture to a word or sentence. Children read a word or sentence at the top of the screen, and then match a picture to that sentence.
10. Children play the Spelling Game by looking at a picture, listening to the word that names the picture and sounding out the word as they type it. Read, Write & Type! gives feedback if a letter is missed and offers helpful hints about how to get it right!
Read, Write & Type! monitors student progress and automatically provides appropriate practice if a student is not ready to move to the next level. The criterion for passing a Spaceship level can be set by teacher or parent. The default setting is 70% unless it is changed up or down.
11. If a student has scored a 57%, when he starts to exit, he is told to return to RWT! and play five Bonus Blimps before he tries to pass the Spaceship level again. The Bonus Blimp keeps track of his scores on all activities. When he clicks on the Blimp it will take him automatically to the activities he needs to practice. He will be credited on his certificate for any Bonus activities he chooses to play. He can play any number at any time. When the student returns to the Spaceship to try again to pass this level, he will be better prepared.
12. Teachers or parents can print out individual or group reports of student progress and be able to see at a glance whether students are having difficulty at the level of phonemic awareness and phonics or whether their problems lie in Spelling or Reading Comprehension.
*Wordy Qwerty - Foundations for Reading and Writing Fluency
Reading and Spelling Software for 2nd and 3rd Grade
The long-awaited sequel to the Read, Write & Type Learning System,
Wordy Qwerty – Foundations for Reading and Writing Fluency, takes 7-9 year olds through the next steps of reading and writing fluency, and picks up where our award-winning software, the Read, Write & Type Learning System leaves off.
After successfully completing Read, Write & Type!, most 6-7 year olds are able to write any word they can say. But they may not spell them all correctly, because they need to know a bit more about spelling conventions and about how words are constructed in English. This is where Wordy Qwerty comes in. In 20 consecutive lessons, woven together with fun-to-play games and delightful songs that will stay in their heads (and an audio CD they can play in the car or on their audio CD player).
The overall purpose of Wordy Qwerty:
Foundations for Reading and Writing Fluency, is to improve phonological and morphological sensitivity, to develop a deeper understanding of how words are constructed in English, and to provide reading and writing activities with helpful feedback, in order to increase fluency and comprehension in reading and writing. Wordy Qwerty has 20 lessons, with six activities per lesson, that present the following foundations for fluency:
Some sounds can be represented in several different ways.
Most words follow about 20 easy spelling rules.
There are many word families, (words that sound the same, or rhyme). By changing the first letter(s), you can make hundreds of words.
Some words are "outlaws". They don't follow the rules. They must be recognized quickly and automatically.
Writing to dictation develops vocabulary, comprehension and fluency as well as spelling skills.
Reading (and filling in missing words) develops vocabulary, comprehension, and fluency skills.

The Six Steps to Reading and Writing Fluency with Wordy Qwerty
1. Patterns
Children generate two lists of words by typing the names of pictures and sorting the words by a given characteristic. They are directed to notice the patterns," or spelling rules, by comparing the two lists. If they can't sound out the words or spell them correctly, the Helping Hands will assist them. Qwerty and Midi talk about the differences between the two lists and derive the 20 spelling rules which then are woven into the lyrics of delightful songs.
2. Karaoke
Rhymes and songs are memorable and fun. There is a catchy song about each of the 20 spelling rules. Children read the lyrics on the screen and can sing along if they want. Often the lyrics contain examples of the words that reflect the spelling rule. Children are motivated to read the words while the song is playing, or while they are singing it themselves.
3. Recycler
Lots of words that rhyme can be made just by changing the first letter or letters of the word. Some words sound the same, or rhyme, but use a different combination of letters to represent the same sound. In this game, chidren learn different vowel combinations that can make the long vowel sound. They watch the RECYCLER drum whirl as it changes the first letter(s) of two rhyming words. They learn to quickly distinguish real words from non-words. The non-words are vacuumed away. Players that score less than 90% on the first try are asked to study the list of real words. If any are not familiar, they can click on the word and hear it used in a sentence. Then they are asked to play the game again.
4. Pop-a-Word
"Outlaw" words are best memorized by learning to recognize them quickly. In this arcade-type game, children find words in a 4 word phrase as each word appears briefly, along with non-target words, in a cluster of colorful balloons. As children click on the correct balloons, they "pop". The faster they recognize the correct words, the more points they make.
5. Write Stories
In these cleverly illustrated 8-line rhymes, children hear and see the first line, and have to type out the second line after it is dictated. They can see and hear the dictated line as often as they need, but get more points if they remember the sentence and try to spell the words correctly. These little stories are full of words that require using the spelling rule just presented.
6. Read Stories
Here are some short, engaging stories that develop comprehension, vocabulary, and fluency. Every so often, there is a word missing, and children have to choose among three possible words, the word that best fits the meaning of the sentence. These stories also include words that utilize the spelling rule, or the "outlaw" words learned in that lesson.
