Phonemic Awareness is a powerful but fun series (3 titles) based upon proven mastery learning principles. Designed for young emerging readers and older readers still struggling to achieve phonemic awareness, this series ensures mastery of over 100 phonemes. This is a "must-have" series for schools needing to bolster their delivery of phonics-based instruction with a comprehensive, research-driven, and effective new series.
Mastery is reached through a research-driven four-step approach:
1. Pretests - Pretests determine which phonemes need instruction, or phonemes can be assigned through the management system.
2. Instruction - Instruction progresses students through sound-to-letter, sound-to-picture, and sound-to-word steps, while providing developmentally appropriate voice-based instruction on phonemes identified in the pretest.
3. Practice/evaluation - Practice/Evaluation carefully moves the student from errorless practice to increasingly more difficult practice items if mastery is achieved using the same sound-to-letter, sound-to-picture and sound-to-word progression found in the instruction process.
4. Mastery - Mastery games motivate successful readers while reinforcing mastered phonemes through highly graphic and fun activities. Games include Phonics Game Show, Leaping Lobster, and Mystery Match.
