Thinkology / Clarity
Grades K-3. Clarity is Volume 1 of Heartsoft's award-winning Critical Thinking Skills program, which includes the animated instructional software program, and a comprehensive Curriculum Integration Guide which contains 39 Supplemental Activities plus coloring sheets.
Clarity's software program contains two stories, each with 10 exercises, all focused on Clarity in thinking and speaking. A cast of colorful characters works through a story which illustrates the concept of Clarity, and then the student participates in one of the 10 interactive exercises which pose situations in which the student must select who is being clear and who is not.
To quote from the Teacher's Manual: “Clarity is the most foundational critical thinking skill. Clarity is mandatory for communication. Clear ideas, purposes and goals lead to clear information, clear questions, and clear conclusions. A clear thought, clearly communicated, is understandable, distinct, evident, intelligible and vivid….. Am I clear about what the directions are? Am I clear about what the teacher is asking me to do? Am I clearly stating what I am thinking? Is there a better way to tell this story so that people will understand me better?”
Thinkology Volume 1 is designed to be a springboard to clarity in every curricular area. Its objective, from the teacher's perspective, is to help integrate critical thinking skills into the established classroom routine. That's why the Curriculum Integration Guide (a large part of the Teacher's Manual) was developed in such detail… to help with that task. Clarity, and its two siblings (Accuracy and Logic), are the perfect companions to the rest of your curriculum to help your students learn and apply Critical Thinking Skills to all of their learning experience in your classroom.
