Reading Realities At-Risk Series contains 45 topics at-risk teens Grades 6-12 want to read about. This series is a low-level, high-interest reading/writing program that uses real-life situations to excite middle and high school students about reading and writing. Using a Directed Reading-Thinking Approach (DRTA), Reading Realities helps students focus on relevant information, synthesize that information, and integrate it into what they already know. Focusing on topics that teenagers face in their everyday lives, students are encouraged to write their own reactions and views in a non-threatening, confidential atmosphere.

- Encourages students to participate with on-line prompting of vocabulary, questions, and writing activities
- Assists students with word meaning by providing vocabulary support (parts of speech, definitions, synonyms/antonyms and sentence examples)

Designed for high school students reading below grade level. Students progress through introduction, prediction, and vocabulary sections and then read stories based upon real life topics of great interest. Comprehension activities include multiple choice questions (with direct feedback), open-ended questions & story retelling. Discussion groups culminate the wide range of reading activities. All writing is saved in students' portfolios. Voice is available for struggling students. This is an excellent series to capture student interest and build critical reading comprehension skills.
