XSI Essentials exceeds the specifications of its competitions’ premium offerings with such features as professional compositing and resolution independent paint, AAF/MXF HD for Avid Editors and customizable character development and rig creation tools. XSI Essentials offers the only native integration of mental ray v.3.3 with up to six nodes of rendering power, that can be used to interactively refine or render scenes of any complexity. This complete production environment in XSI gives you the power to do more for less.

Compositing and Hybrid Vector and Raster Paint
Previously available only in XSI Advanced, Softimage’s resolution-independent, node-based compositing, vector and raster paint for both Linux and Windows are now available in XSI Essentials. In addition to unique 2D/3D workflows and tight integration with render passes, other key features include retiming with the Animation Mixer, 2 and 4-point 2D Tracking and stabilization, OpenEXR and HDR file formats support.
AAF\MXF HD for Avid Editors
New output options for the Avid DNA family of products include industry standard AAF/MXF, AVI and QT. Version 4.2 introduces MXF HD output, as well as the creation of 10bit real-time playable media. Together with integrated support for Avid Mojo output, XSI offers the ability to examine any view, render region, or animation directly on an external monitor.
Character Creation Toolsets
The industry’s leading character animation system provides new advanced biped, quadruped, and hybrid rig systems as well as a Character SDK for customizing character creation, animation, and editing.
