BROADBAND CABLE CONTROL SOLUTIONS


The Cisco Service Control solution allows providers to leverage their existing IP network infrastructure to differentiate between services like voice over IP, web browsing, music downloads, video streaming, or P2P traffic. Cisco Service Control accomplishes this by adding a programmable service layer to networks that allows operators to identify subscribers, classify applications, guarantee service performance, and charge for multiple IP services.

INTERFACES AND MODULES


The Cisco 16-port and 36-port 10/100 EtherSwitch modules for Cisco 2600, 3600, and 3700 series routers offer branch office customers the option to integrate switching and routing in one platform. Combining robust Layer 3 flexible WAN routing with low-density line-rate Layer 2 switching, the EtherSwitch modules provide straightforward configuration, easy deployment and integrated management in a single platform.

Cisco offers a range of Gigabit Interface Converters (GBICs) and Small Form-factor Pluggable (SFP) for Gigabit Ethernet use. These small, modular optical interface transceivers offer a convenient and cost effective solution for the adoption of Gigabit Ethernet in data center, campus, metropolitan area access and ring networks, and storage area networks.

The Cisco 12000 Series 16-Port, 8-Port, and 4-Port OC-3c/STM-1c POS/SDH ISE Line Cards feature the ISE technology-a unique, edge-optimized, programmable adaptive network processor that combines the hardware performance of application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs) with the flexibility of software. Together, the 12000 Series and ISE technology enable a broad range of edge services and accommodates future customer requirements with simple software upgrades instead of costly hardware replacement.

The Cisco NM-AIC-64 Network Module expands the capabilities of Service Provider and Enterprise networks by providing remote alarm monitoring and control of non-IP devices. By installing this network module into the Cisco 26xx, 3631, 3640, or 3660 Series routers, network managers have the capability of monitoring and controlling remote, unstaffed sites to provide increased security, reliability, and control of the network. For example, if a flood occurs at a service-provider remote site, the Alarm Interface Controller (AIC) issues an alarm. The network manager can then invoke a command to turn on a sump pump instead of wasting valuable time waiting for somebody to arrive at the facility. In the event of an unauthorized entry into a secure area, the AIC can initiate a visual and audible alarm. Further, if wired to a camera, the AIC can activate it for remote surveillance.

The single-port Cisco Gigabit Ethernet Network Module (part number NM-1GE) provides Gigabit Ethernet optical and copper connectivity for access routers. The module is supported by the Cisco 2691, Cisco 3660, Cisco 3725, and Cisco 3745 series routers. This network module has one gigabit interface converter (GBIC) slot to carry any standard copper or optical Cisco GBIC (see Table 1 for details). The flexibility to use different GBICs allows for making a choice depending on various factors, such as distance, cost, existing infrastructure, future expansion plans, and requirements.

Cisco 7600 Series 12-Port Channelized T3 (CT3) to DS0 Optical Services Module (OSM) for channelized services enable the rapid, efficient addition of circuits within existing electrical connections. Powered by Cisco PXF technology, an Adaptive Network Processor (ANP), the 12-port Channelized T3 OSM delivers up to 336 T1s or 1,000 DS0s coupled with WRED and hierarchical shaping with up to 8,000 queues for granular service delivery. Ideal applications include: Private line aggregation, high-speed Internet access and WAN edge aggregation.

The Cisco High-Density Analog and Digital Extension Module for Voice and Fax (EVM-HD) provides enterprises, managed service providers and service providers the ability to directly connect public-switched telephone networks (PSTNs) and existing telephony equipment to Cisco 2821, Cisco 2851, Cisco 3825, and Cisco 3845 integrated services routers. With support for up to 24 total voice and fax sessions, the Cisco High-Density Extension Module is ideal for networks with high analog (foreign exchange station [FXS], direct inward dialing [DID], and foreign exchange office [FXO]) and digital (Basic Rate Interface [BRI]) call-capacity requirements.



LRE AND xDSL SOLUTIONS


The Catalyst 2950 Long Reach Ethernet (LRE) Series Switches enable enterprises and service providers to extend intelligent Ethernet services over existing phone and legacy wiring. With a reach of up to 5000 feet, enterprises can deploy productivity enhancing applications across their entire network while avoiding the costs of rewiring. Also, service providers now have a cost-effective solution for delivering metro Ethernet services that leverages their existing copper infrastructure.

The Cisco 575, 576, and 585 LRE Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) are low-cost, compact devices that bridge Long-Reach Ethernet (LRE) and Ethernet traffic. They support Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS) traffic, including digital phones, that co-exists over the same LRE line. The Cisco 575 and 585 LRE CPE operate only with the Catalyst 2900 LRE XL and Catalyst 2950 LRE Series switches as part of the Cisco Long-Reach Ethernet networking solution. The Cisco 576 LRE CPE operate only with the Catalyst 2950 LRE 997 Switch.

The Cisco Long-Reach Ethernet (LRE) 48 POTS Splitter is a cost-effective high-density device that is ideal for buildings with on-site PBX systems, and where Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS) traffic must co-exist over the same copper wiring. The Cisco LRE 48 POTS Splitter enables the co-existence of LRE and POTS on the same telephone line.

Cisco 800 Series of Secure Routers are ideal for providing secure Internet and corporate network connectivity to small remote offices and teleworkers. The Cisco 800 Series of Secure Routers provide a wide range of rich integrated security services, advanced Quality of Service (QoS) features for high quality voice, video and data applications, and easy deployment and remote management features with Cisco IOS software.

The industry-leading Cisco 6000 series IP DSL switch enables a rich portfolio of multiservice applications with the most comprehensive set of IP+ATM managed-service and common multi-DSL technologies for central offices (COs), remote terminals, and multiple dwelling units.

Cisco 1700/2600/3600/3700 Series 1-Port ADSL WICs on the Cisco 1700/2600/3700 series routers deliver business class ADSL over basic telephone service or otherwise known as Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS) (through WIC-1ADSL and WIC-1ADSL-DG) and ADSL over ISDN (through WIC-1ADSL-I-DG) services for small and medium-sized businesses to enterprise branch offices (Figure 1). These two ADSL WICs, combined with the Cisco 1700/2600/3700 Series routers, enable service providers and resellers to offer additional services by supporting features for business-class security, voice integration, differentiated classes of service, and managed network access with Cisco IOS Software. These value-added features, along with the manageability and reliability of Cisco IOS technology, provide the mission-critical networking that businesses require.



NETWORK MANAGEMENT


The Cisco Secure Access Control Server (ACS) for UNIX is a high-performance, highly scalable, centralized user access control framework. Cisco Secure ACS offers centralized command and control for all user authentication, authorization, and accounting from a Web-based, graphical interface, and distributes those controls to hundreds or thousands of access gateways in your network. With ACS you can manage and administer user access for Cisco IOS routers, virtual private networks (VPNs), firewalls, dial and broadband DSL, cable access solutions, voice over IP (VoIP), Cisco wireless solutions, and Cisco Catalyst switches via IEEE 802.1x access control. In addition, you can leverage the same ACS access framework to control administrator access and configuration for all TACACS+ enabled network devices in your network. Advanced features include automatic service monitoring, database synchronization and importation of tools for large- scale deployments, Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) user authentication support, user and administrative access reporting, dynamic quota generation, restrictions such as time of day and day of week, as well as user and device group profiles. ACS also offers complete coverage for all Cisco router, VPN, wireless, Broadband Service Manager (BBSM), and VoIP vendor-specific attributes (VSAs).

Cisco Secure Access Control Server (ACS) for Windows provides a centralized identity networking solution and simplified user management experience across all Cisco devices and security management applications. Cisco Secure ACS helps to ensure enforcement of assigned policies by allowing network administrators to control:

CiscoWorks LAN Management Solution provides:

CiscoWorks SNMS is a part of the CiscoWorks family of products for managing small to large networks. CiscoWorks SNMS is a new Web-based network management solution for small to medium-sized businesses, with 40 or fewer Cisco internetworking devices such as switches, routers, hubs, and access servers. CiscoWorks SNMS can also monitor third-party IT assets such as servers, applications, services, and printers. CiscoWorks SNMS is a collection of Windows 2000-based network management applications that fill the needs of the technically savvy customer in the small to medium-sized business space. CiscoWorks SNMS allows users to monitor and set thresholds for numerous servers and third-party devices. It provides a powerful set of life-cycle functions including configuration management and troubleshooting tools for Cisco devices.

CiscoWorks Access Control List (ACL) Manager is an important component of the CiscoWorks family of products and an add-on application to Resource Manager Essentials. ACL Manager is a component part of the CiscoWorks Routed WAN Management solution bundle. It provides a Web interface to a set of applications that manage the access lists of Cisco devices in an enterprise network environment. ACL Manager dramatically reduces the time needed to develop new filters and maintain existing traffic filters in large-scale deployments of Cisco devices.

Internetwork Performance Monitor is a network response time and availability troubleshooting application. This application empowers network engineers to proactively troubleshoot network-wide performance to diagnose congestion and latencyproblems utilizing real time and historical statistics. IPM is available as a component within the CiscoWorks Routed WAN Management Solution. As such, it can draw on device inventory information maintained by the CiscoWorks base applications. The server functionality of IPM is supported on either Solaris or Windows platforms.

The CiscoWorks Management Center for Firewalls features the look-and-feel of the PIX Device Manager (PDM) but offers centralized management scalability of up to 1,000 Cisco Firewalls. The Management Center for Firewalls provides entire SAFE coverage and features centralized management of access rules, network address translation, intrusion detection and EZVPN on Cisco Firewalls. The Management Center for Firewalls supports centralized management of virtually any Cisco Firewall security network including remote access, DMZ, SOHO, voice networks, storage networks, wireless networks, Internet security and management security provider scenarios.

CiscoWorks Security Information Management Solution (SIMS) is a solution that collects, analyzes, and correlates security event data from across the enterprise.
