Absolute Software Adds Geolocation to LoJack for Laptops
Two new features were recently added at no charge:
- Geolocation – For day-to-day use (in non–theft scenarios), customers can keep track of their computer on an internet-based map. North American Premium version customers can track via Wi-Fi triangulation or GPS.* Standard version customers can track via IP address.
- Device Freeze – If a computer is suspected to be simply lost and not stolen, customers can freeze their computer and display a custom message for someone who finds it. In addition, an unauthorized user cannot access the content on the computer, keeping private information private in an effort to prevent identity theft.
The Computrace Agent by Absolute Software is a small software client that is embedded into the BIOS firmware of a computer at the factory. Or you can easily install it onto the hard drive of a computer.
The Agent in your computer maintains daily contact with the Absolute Monitoring Center so you can manage your IT assets on or off your company network--knowing where they are, who's using them, and what types of software and other applications reside on them.
Consider Computrace solutions by Absolute Software your built-in Theftguard. If you report a stolen computer, Agent contact with the Monitoring Center will increase to every 15 minutes. Increased contact allows us to obtain specific details like the physical location of your computer, any activity that has occurred post-theft, and other important information that will aid us in working with local police agencies to catch the thief and return your property to you. Regardless of recovery status, you can remotely delete data to remove some or all of the information stored on your device so that it doesn't fall into the wrong hands.
