NetOp On Demand 1.74

Simple, effective, and secure Internet-based remote support technology for IT groups and help desks

NetOp has taken its world-famous remote control technology and created NetOp On Demand to enable temporary helpdesk sessions across the Internet without any firewall configuration. By downloading a small, self-executing program, end users can receive true hands-on help from your helpdesk staff. Using NetOp, your helpdesk representative can see the end user’s screen, move the cursor, click, type – and even transfer files. And when the program is closed again, it automatically deletes itself from the end user’s hard disk.

  • New connection setting TCP only for higher performance in LAN
  • Better connectivity by improved proxy handling when using HTTP protocol
  • Support of Windows Server 2008
  • Multi-monitor support
  • Higher performance when remote controlling Vista PCs (disabling Aero during the session by default)
  • Unicode support /Additional languages (Korean, Japanese, Chinese)
  • Improved stability & Minor bug fixes
  • Win 9x/Me no longer supported but old version of NOD will be available for download if Win 9x/Me support is needed

Features

Localization
The following languages are now supported:
Chinese (simplified)
English
French
German
Italian
Japanese
Korean
Spanish
I order for the chat sessions to work properly with NRC Guests on Windows, both computers must run using the same language OS.

Windows Vista
Aero is now disabled during the remote control session in order to speed up screen content transfer.
As an ad hoc Host running in the current user’s context it does not have the rights to access the User Access Control dialogs. Thus these are not transferred to the Guest screen.

Multiple monitor support
In case the Host computer has more than one monitor attached and the desktop is extended to those monitors the Host will now transfer the screen content of these monitors.

Communication
This release introduces improved control over communication protocols. The Host can be configured to use either TCP or HTTP protocol. The HTTP protocol has been improved in order to better handle invisible or hard-to-detect proxies. The improvement minimizes the risk of not being able to connect to the helpdesk via a gateway, but results in slower traffic. It is recommended to use TCP where possible for highest speed. The configuration option “Connection method order” adds the possibility to select TCP to be tried for successful connection prior to HTTP. The default order of communication protocol attempts is “4123”.

4 = Connect using TCP.
1 = Direct connection to Help Provider Address using HTTP is attempted.
2 = Connection through proxy using Internet Explorer proxy settings with HTTP is attempted.
3 = Connection through proxy using Firefox proxy settings with HTTP is attempted.

The default setting “4123” means that the Host will initialize a session trying to establish a connection to help.provider.com using TCP. If this fails it will fail silently and a direct connection to help.provider.com using HTTP is attempted. If this also fails it will fail silently and try using the proxy settings used by Internet Explorer. If this also fails it will fail silently and try using proxy setting used by Firefox. If this also fails it will notify the user. A left out digit means that the method is not used e.g. “42” will make the Host try a direct TCP connection first and then a HTTP connection using Internet Explorer proxy settings.

Windows Vista and Server 2008
The Host now runs on all Windows Vista and Server 2008 platforms. The screen transfer method is bitmap mode hence the Aero feature on Vista is disabled during the remote control session in order to speed up screen content transfer.
64 bit support The Host runs on all Windows XP, Vista and Server 2008 x64 bit platforms.

**The following platforms are no longer supported:
Support for Unicode has forced us to remove Windows 95, 98 and ME from the list of supported platforms.
A message will notify the user about this if executed on these platforms.
