Retrospect Server (for MAC) from EMC Dantz
Retrospect Server backs up and restores a single local server and as many as 100 clients, including Macintosh, Windows, and Red Hat Linux desktops and notebooks, as well as servers running Mac OS X (10.1.5 through 10.3).
Designed for use in small and midsize businesses, Retrospect Server runs on a server running Mac OS X (10.1.5 through 10.3) and backs up as many as 100 networked clients, including Apple Macintosh, Microsoft Windows, and Red Hat Linux desktops and notebooks as well as servers running Mac OS X Server (10.1.5 through 10.3). Retrospect Server can be easily expanded with additional client licenses. It utilizes proven automated technology to provide easy administration, complete protection for networked computers, and fast backups with 100% accurate restores. The Retrospect 6.0 product CD provides bootable Mac OS X disaster recovery and includes both Retrospect 6.0 for use on Mac OS X computers and Retrospect 5.1 for backing up to Mac OS 9 computers.
Key Benefits
Protect Your Entire Network - Retrospect provides automated protection for servers containing as much as 1,000 terabytes of data or more, as well as networked desktops and notebooks, which can contain 40-to-80 percent of a business's critical data. It protects user data, operating system files and settings, as well as applications and their settings. Retrospect's patented technology saves considerable time and media space by backing up just one copy of identical files on a computer or across a network of computers. And the Retrospect product CD provides bootable Mac OS X disaster recovery. Whether you need to recover a file or folder, take a computer back to a prior point in time, or perform a bare metal restore, Retrospect has you covered.
Get Fast Backups and Avoid Flawed Restores - Only Retrospect performs the fastest backups while avoiding flawed restores. Most businesses use incremental or differential backups to save time. Unfortunately, when the hard drive is restored to a day that an incremental or differential backup was performed, the restore is always flawed because it contains entire contents of the full and incremental/differential backups, including unwanted files and folders that were deleted, renamed, or moved between backups. Retrospect avoids flawed restores by creating a list of all of the files and folders on the hard drives prior to performing the backup. Retrospect later uses the appropriate list to deliver 100% accurate restores to any day that you backed up.
Self-Adjusting Backup Operations - Retrospect keeps backup operations running smoothly with minimal effort, saving valuable time for the backup administrator. Retrospect eliminates the need to write customized backup scripts each day because it automatically adjusts backup operations to capture data that was not backed up as a result of time constraints, network problems, or computers that were unavailable. Notebooks are automatically recognized and prioritized for backup when they connect to the network.
Easiest Onsite/Offsite Tape Rotation - Retrospect makes it easy to implement an offsite/onsite backup strategy. Retrospect stores and tracks data in Backup Sets. With just two Backup Sets, you can easily and quickly implement an onsite/offsite backup strategy by alternately rotating the Backup Sets offsite. In contrast, other backup software requires using piles of tapes in a complex, manual, and error-prone strategy such as grandfather-father-son. Retrospect can back up to many brands of tape drives, tape autoloaders, and tape libraries, as well as to FTP servers.

The maximum size of a volume that can be backed up has increased from 1 TB to greater than 1,000 TB.
NEW - Larger Backup Sets Supported
The maximum amount of data that can be contained in a single Backup Set has been increased from 1 TB to greater than 1,000 TB.
Encryption
Fast SimpleCrypt(TM) or strong DES encryption protects data in transit and on the backup media.
Virus Protection
Retrospect works with the virus protection program that you are using today to ensure virus free backups.
Automatic Device Detection
Automatic recognition of backup devices eliminates the need to load and configure device drivers manually. For a list of supported devices, visit our Web site at www.dantz.com.
Back Up to a Variety of Devices
Back up to many brands of tape drives/autoloaders/libraries, hard drives, removable hard drives, and CD/DVD drives, as well as to FTP servers.
NEW - Improved Backups to FireWire and USB Hard Disk Drives
Backups can now span multiple FireWire and USB hard disks, providing a disk-to-disk backup solution for networks that contain more data than fits on a single large disk.

Network communication capabilities are comprehensive and flexible. Back up client systems across routers in multiple IP subnets.
Compression
Compression increases the capacity of the backup media.
Additional Client Licenses
Extend the number of networked computers that can be protected with optional client licenses.
Get Fast Backups and Avoid Flawed Restores
Fast Backups
Retrospect backs up only new and changed data to save considerable time performing backups, while still ensuring 100% accurate restores.
100% Accurate Restores to Any Point in Time
Unlike other backup software, Retrospect does not restore unwanted files that were deleted, moved, or renamed between the initial and subsequent backups.
Point-in-Time Restores
Roll back any folder, file, or disk to a previously backed up state - even restore the operating system. The Retrospect product CD provides bootable OS X disaster recovery to protect against computer failure.
NEW - Powerful Filtering with Selectors
Back up or exclude files and folders based on multiple criteria, keeping backups efficient. New selectors have been added to make it easier to precisely select files and folders to be backed up.
NEW - Bootable CD Supports Latest Macs
The Retrospect product CD now uses Mac OS X 10.3.1 for bootable disaster recovery of the latest Macintoshes. A disaster recovery boot CD can be created for older Mac OS 9 computers.
Extensive Search Capabilities
Search for files on the backup media using a multitude of criteria. Retrospect optimizes and runs the restore, asking for media as necessary.
Fit More on Your Backup Media
Retrospect's patented IncrementalPLUS technology saves considerable time and media space by backing up just one copy of identical files on a computer or across a network of computers.
Easy Administration
Self-Adjusting Backup Operations
Patented technology eliminates the need to write customized backup scripts each day because it automatically adjusts backup operations to capture data that was not backed up as a result of time constraints, network problems, or computers that were unavailable.
Backup Sets
Backup Sets eliminate complex media rotation strategies such as grandfather/father/son, truly simplifying the creation and management of an onsite/offsite data protection strategy.
Supports Multiple Backup Sets
Create more than one complete set of backup media for safety and for offsite disaster recovery purposes. Make a copy of an existing Backup Set.
Onsite/Offsite Media Rotation
Only Retrospect avoids having to perform a time-consuming full backup each time offsite media is rotated onsite. Progressive Backup technology performs an incremental backup to make the offsite media current.
EasyScript(TM) Wizard
For simple backup needs, just answer a few questions and Retrospect creates the required backup scripts and schedules.
NEW - User-Friendly Storage Devices GUI
A hierarchical tape library GUI makes tape and drive management easier for tape libraries.
