Fraction Operations from Sunburst

In Fraction Operations students build on the concepts of fraction meaning and equivalence as they learn to operate with fraction. Students see the purpose of constructing same size parts when they add and subtract fractions. They gain informal experience multiply fractions by creating area models to find a fraction of a fraction. Students use a measuring tool to understand the concept behind the division of fractions. They are asked to describe "the action of the operation" in personalized electronic journals, where examples of these activities can be saved.

In this visually exciting investigation, students are given opportunities to:

Use visual models or diagrams to solve problems with fractions
Use length models to visually explore the meaning of division with fractions
Use equivalent fractions to add fractions
Create a given fraction by combining two fractions
Use area models to find fractions of fractions
Know when to add, subtract, multiply or divide fractions
Describe actions with fractions using words and symbols

Includes one disk or CD-ROM and a teacher's guide. You receive a license to install the program on one computer at a time. Teachers and students may use the program from home or other school-approved off-site locations.

Includes an unlimited site license on a single file server for use on interconnected computers at one school site. A Teacher Guide is included. You may purchase stand-alone CD-ROMs for the network title at $10.00 each. These CD-ROMs carry a School-to-Home License.
