SpartanModel - An Electronic Model Kit from Wavefunction
Catalyze Understanding with SpartanModel!
An "Electronic Model Kit". Making use of computer technology, SpartanModel replaces the "plastic models" used by past generations of organic chemistry students, and extends the utility of molecular models in chemistry education. Affordable student copies and campus site licenses are available.
SpartanModel is fully compatible with Spartan Windows and Macintosh software: This means that the same Spartan software used in hundreds of academic teaching labs, and at thousands of schools world-wide, can generate additional content which can be opened and explored with SpartanModel.
FEATURES
Advantages over Plastic Model Kits
SpartanModel offers superior features to conventional plastic model kits. Several advantages are covered below. Purchase a copy today and see for yourself how SpartanModel puts Chemistry at your Fingertips.
Build Anything - From a hydrogen proton to DNA and everything in between.
SpartanModel's builders encourage the inquisitive student to explore.
Visualize in Multiple Model Styles
Different model styles may be used to emphasize specific molecular details
SpartanModel Offers Highly Accurate Structures
In addition to molecular mechanics structure optimizations, SpartanModel contains an extensive organic chemistry database of several thousand common organic molecules. The database can be accessed through building or via text retrieval. All entries have been structurally optimized with quantum mechanics for accuracy and include calculated molecular properties and electrostatic potential maps.
Included Chemistry Content
SpartanModel includes chemistry content. SpartanModel is designed to enable students to explore all topics possible with conventional plastic model kits - AND an assortment of additional concepts which are not approached with plastic models. The Tutorial and User's Guide includes a set of molecular modeling topics intended to familiarize students with concepts that are ideally presented with molecular modeling tools. Additionally, an extensive set of student activities are provided.

Francis Carey Organic Chemistry Edition
SpartanModel is bundled with each NEW copy of McGraw Hill's Organic Chemistry Sixth Edition by Francis A. Carey. In the latest edition, the Carey text not only continues its use of molecular modeling as a tool for visual presentation, but also tightly integrates molecular modeling in a "Learning by Modeling" section at the end of each chapter. Molecular models, and the software to make their own models, not only make organic chemistry more accessible to students who are "visual learners", they enrich the educational experience for all.
In addition to the Learning by Modeling sections, the Carey text includes hundreds of SpartanModel figures, each of which can be explored in further detail by students using the included SpartanModel software.
SpartanModel includes:
- One (1) SpartanModel CD-ROM (and installation code)
- One (1) pair 3-D Glasses
- One (1) book "SpartanModel Tutorial and User's Guide" ISBN# 1-890661-30-9 (includes approx. 50 pages of molecular modeling activities).
- Licensing is intended solely for student use on student machines.
