Portrait 4: Graphing & Calculating from MathResources
Tremendous Graphing Power!
Overview
Calculating and graphing are an important part of math education. Investing precious time learning how to use a device to produce these results is not. Portrait 4: Graping & Calculating provides all the necessary calculating and graphing power but without the non-transferable and steep learning curve of most graping and calculating devices. The excellent functionality is combined with a unique Help system. This combination will have you and your students generating numeric and graphincal output within 15 minutes of installing the software.
Over 95 Mathematical Functions
Portrait 4: Graping & Calculating computes all the basic arithmetic operations, exponential and logarithmic functions, trigonometric and inverse trig functions, plus hyperbolic and inverse hyperbolic functions, of course. In addition, over 95 additional mathematical functions are provided in the Functions menu. These include Calculus functions, Financial Math, Solving Equations, Linear Programming, Matrices, Number Theory, Probability Distributions, Statistics, including both Confidence intervals and Statistical tests and Sequences.
Portrait 4: Graphing & Calculating has been designed to assist in the teaching and learning of mathematics. Users with only a rudimentary knowledge of either Windows or MAC operating systems are able to achieve excellent results from the software very quickly. If a user is not familiar with either Windows or MAC operating systems, Portrait 4: Graphing and Calculating is an tremendous way to learn both the skills required for math and the skills required for running either Windows or MAC computers.
User Interface
The interface for Portrait 4: Graphing & Calculating has been designed for fast and effective use. Edit, Plots, Functions and Options operations all run from familiar drop down menus. These run across the top of the calculator providing quick access to the power of the calculator at the click of a button. The overall design allows users to generate calculations or plots within 15 minutes of installing the software. This allows teachers and students to become involved in the mathematics instead of the software's learning curve. The software is capable of accepting information from spreadsheets or sending information to spreadsheets, word processing packages or presentation software. This integration of capabilities makes Portrait 4: Graphing and Calculating a truly powerful tool for school or home use.
11 Different Types of Graphs
Portrait 4: Graphing & Calculating gives easy access to eleven different types of graphs including: Box and Whisker plots, Pie or Circle graphs, Bar graphs, Histograms, Curves of Best Fit, Functions of f(x), Parametric plots, Polar plots, Point plots, Graphs of inequalities and Graphs of equations or Implicit Plots. To choose a graph, click on Plots to see a drop down menu of the graphs available. Simply click on the graph you want and a graphing window will open. Need more information about the graph you want to draw? No problem, just check out the help files for details, descriptions and examples.
Modify Your Graphs
Once you have drawn your graphs, you can make many modifications. Alter the axes of a graph or change the color and style of it. Label your graph, or change the labels on the x- and y-axes. Most importantly you can dictate the number of points you want plotted. Instead of the few pixels on a graphing calculator you can generate seriously robust graphs from your equations. The graphs can all be saved and printed or easily copied to a word processing document, paint or presentation program to enhance any project work. Data can also be imported and exported to and from spread sheet programs.
Function Menu
The Functions menu offers a tremendous amount of calculating power with over 95 specific functions in the menus. They cover topics including calculus, solving equations, financial math, linear programming, matrices, number theory, probability distributions, statistics and sequences. Each of these topics expands to give further drop down menus, listing all the functions available. As you highlight each function on the menu, a brief description of that function is highlighted along the bottom edge of the calculator.
Help Files
The Help Files have been designed to make Portrait 4: Graphing & Calculating extremely easy to use. They provide detailed information about the types of data or equations that must be input to generate results. Examples are also included. Most importantly, you can have the Help Files run simultaneously with the software so that help is always there when you need it.
Copying & Pasting from the Calculator
One of the hottest features of Portrait 4: Graphing & Calculating is its integration with word processing, presentation and spread sheet programs. The ability to copy, paste, import and export data and graphs you create and the equations you solve into any popular package you are working with greatly enhances the power of Portrait 4: Graphing & Calculating. Teachers and students can benefit by incorporating high quality, precise graphs into their documents whether they are projects, assignments, tests or power point presentations.
