Word Works Vocabulary Builders were designed to improve oral and visual word recognition, enhance fluency, and speed lexical retrieval through the delivery of vocabulary and spelling instruction. Word Works consistently introduces new vocabulary words to students through the use of meaningful sentence contexts. In addition to instruction, the series offers games, practice activities, student assessment, and tracking.
Highly flexible teacher options make it easy to manage vocabulary lists with students working at different levels. The series provides exposure to over 600 grade-level words found in basal reading series. In combination with Worksheet Magic Plus, the series affords students unlimited remediation and practice opportunities.
Word Works Vocabulary Builders includes these activities:
- Word Preview - Word Preview allows students to review the selected word list. Students can select to have words pronounced or spelled out loud.
- Spelling Theater - The computer will ask them to spell a word, and then the computer will repeat the word in a sentence. Watch the animals after each correct answer!
- Word Crunch - In Word Crunch, students use their reasoning, logic, and spelling skills as they try to decode the scrambled word.
- Multiple Choice Test - You can test your students on the selected word list by giving them a Multiple Choice test. The same words and sentences used in the other activities will be used in the test.
- Word Chaining - A word from the list is displayed in the middle of the screen; however, some of the letters are missing. The Speak and Flash features provide some help when students are stumped.
- Word Volcano - The Word Volcano game allows students to decode the missing word from a sentence.
- Word Launch - Students fill in missing words to complete as many correct sentences as possible.
- Speed Test - After the student tests at the targeted fastest speed, the computer moves to a slower speed, if necessary, and tests those words not passed during the faster setting.
