NetApp Primary Storage
Reliable, fast, scalable systems simplify and unify enterprise data storage.
NetApp® primary storage enables you to unify and streamline your infrastructure by consolidating storage across many servers and applications over any storage fabric.
NetApp fabric-attached storage (FAS) systems integrate easily into complex enterprise environments and provide shared access to UNIX®, Windows®, Linux, and Web data while simultaneously supporting Fibre Channel SAN, IP SAN (iSCSI), and NAS. These high performance systems have a proven ability to continuously serve data at higher than 99.99% availability, and can scale from 50GB to many terabytes using Serial ATA and/or Fibre Channel disk drives.
The NetApp FAS product line includes:
- FAS6000 series: scalability for the largest enterprise applications
- FAS900 series: industry-leading performance and storage scalability
- FAS3000 series: breakthrough value for midtier enterprise storage
- FAS200 series: affordable, highly scalable, and upgradeable storage

Nearline Storage with NetApp NearStore NearStore represents SATA-based storage platforms optimized for data protection and retention applications.
The NetApp® NearStore® system bridges the gap between primary storage and offline storage by providing much faster data access than offline storage at a cost much lower than primary storage. This makes NearStore ideal for data protection and retention applications such as disk-to-disk backup, disaster recovery, archival, compliant retention, and content storage.
NearStore R200
The NetApp NearStore R200 system is a flexible disk-based nearline storage system that combines the powerful Data ONTAP® operating system with inexpensive SATA disk drives. This enables NearStore to provide cost-effective, fast-access storage for multiple data protection and retention applications.
NearStore Virtual Tape Library (VTL)
The NearStore virtual tape library (VTL) is a disk-to-disk backup appliance that appears like a tape library to a backup software application but provides the superior speed and reliability of disk technologies. NearStore VTL provides disk-to-disk backup for any heterogeneous primary storage environment. NearStore VTL reduces management costs and dramatically improves backup and recovery performance while leveraging existing investments in infrastructure, backup software, and processes.
The NetApp NearStore product line includes:
- NearStore R200: Fast, flexible, and cost-effective disk-based storage
- NearStore VTL: Fast, reliable backup and recovery for any open systems storage environment

NetApp Storage Virtualization Solutions Tiered, heterogeneous storage virtualization for improved utilization and manageability.
Many enterprises have made significant investments in multiple storage architectures to support a variety of different application requirements. This approach often results in an inefficient, underutilized storage environment that can be difficult to manage and costly to scale.
Companies with extensive SANs are looking for ways to broaden the use of their current infrastructures and achieve a greater ROI by provisioning SAN capacity for new business solutions. NetApp® V-Series is a network-based solution that virtualizes tiered, heterogeneous storage arrays enabling unified block (FCP and iSCSI) and file (NAS) access to data stored in Fibre Channel SAN storage arrays. |
NetApp Web Delivery and Security Solutions Internet gateway proxy and distributed Web delivery appliances.
The NetApp® NetCache® product line is a scalable suite of Web delivery and security appliances. NetCache appliances, which currently power some of the world's largest enterprises and telecommunications networks, are deployed across the entire network, from the primary data center to remote points of presence (POPs) and local offices worldwide.
NetCache appliances address three major customer challenges:
- Internet security. NetCache appliances form the foundation of the NetApp Internet access and security (· IAS) solution, which enables Internet security capabilities, including proxy, caching, access control, content filtering, Web antivirus, SSL scanning, IM and P2P blocking, antispam, and reporting.
- Web content and application acceleration. NetCache appliances reduce delays, bandwidth usage, and server load to improve delivery of Web content and Web-based applications such as ERP and CRM systems.
- Video delivery. NetCache appliances improve delivery quality of online training, executive video broadcasts, and large-scale video-on-demand services.
The ability to support multiple applications on a single platform enable you to scale your network more quickly, with greater manageability |
Network Appliance Unified Storage Consolidated, standardized, and centrally managed SAN and NAS storage
Network Appliance unified storage facilitates the deployment of a single, integrated storage solution. This enables you to focus on application requirements rather than technology, while ensuring that your storage network will be capable of seamlessly supporting your long-term storage needs.
NetApp enterprise storage systems function as "unification engines" that simultaneously support Fibre Channel and IP storage area networks (SAN) and network-attached storage (NAS):
- Fibre Channel SANs have become the de facto standard for storage networking in the corporate data center, providing significant advantages over direct-attached storage through improved storage utilization, higher data availability, reduced management costs, and highly scalable capacity and performance.
- IP SANs (iSCSI) combine widely deployed TCP/IP networking with SCSI data transfer standards to provide a SAN alternative to direct-attached storage in cost-sensitive areas of your IT infrastructure. iSCSI is an ideal solution for storage consolidation, data protection, and disaster recovery in both centralized and distributed environments.
- NAS has become synonymous with reliability, simplicity, and the lowest TCO of any storage networking solution. Originally deployed in data sharing environments, NetApp NAS solutions have become a preferred solution for enterprise applications and database environments where automated performance tuning and sophisticated data management capabilities can reduce costs, improve data availability, and simplify operations.
- All NetApp storage solutions leverage standard NetApp features such as the highly optimized and scalable NetApp Data ONTAP® storage operating system, enabling you to minimize complexity and costs while bringing unequaled flexibility to your storage environment.
